Gaspé
Gaspé is an all-seasons bicycle shelter developed for the Plateau Mont-Royal which offers the Montreal’s cycling community a large capacity all-seasons bike station. Harmoniously integrated, Gaspé is in-line with the rhythm imposed by the built environment. Designed as a modular system, each module can store up to twelve bicycles. It uses on-street parking width to make the concept exportable to other areas. The utilitarian and minimalist design allows light to filter through its transparent panels while ensuring an adequate visibility to the neighboring offices.

This project was conceived within the GRAD, a urban design research lab at the University of Montreal. Thanks to Prof. Tatjana Leblanc and to Ms. Maureen Wilhelm-Blanc, from the Plateau Mont-Royal Borough.

Research
After researching extensively bicycles, locking methods, and various already existing typologies, an on-site analysis was realized to identify constraints and opportunities.

An urban and architectural study was also made to ensure that the concept would be coherent to the surrounding built environment.
Iterations
Sketch iterations were made to define three formals orientations. Rough scale down models were rapidly done to visualize and elaborate on each of these orientations.

Three refined and modelized concepts were then presented to the mayor and borough officials in order to select one that would be elaborated and further detailed.
